CYPRUS – Still Open For Business!
In a week when Cyprus’ tourist sector has been highlighting turnover drops of 50% plus following the drone attack on RAF Akrotiri several weeks back, I can report that I am just returned from this stunning Mediterranean island intact, suntanned (a slight exaggeration perhaps) and with not one bomb in sight!
Granted, the beaches and hotel sun loungers in Paphos might have been a little short on people, however, if I am being totally honest, that is more about British media hype than what is actually happening on the ground: life was chilled and everyone was open for business.

A Base for Yorkshire: Why The New Royal Oak Is Halifax’s Smartest New Stay
A Grade II-listed Halifax landmark has been reborn as a six-bedroom boutique hotel above a proper traditional pub. Paddy Fitzgibbon’s New Royal Oak makes the case for Calderdale as a base for exploring Yorkshire.
Halifax has always been a town worth passing through. The question, until recently, was where you would actually want to stay once you have arrived. The secret Netherlands: Oyster picking in Zeeland
Most visitors to the Netherlands never leave Amsterdam. The Dutch, it turns out, are quite happy about that.
Two hours south-west of the capital lies a province that has spent centuries doing its own thing, entirely unbothered by the tourist trail. Zeeland — its name meaning, literally, Sea Land — is a mosaic of reclaimed islands shaped by dikes, estuaries, and a perpetual negotiation with water that defines life here. It sits where the Rhine, Maas, and Scheldt meet the North Sea, and the result is a complicated, beautiful geography that has none of what you came expecting. No canals, no tulip fields, no wooden clogs.
